Values and Goals

I value the desire to learn. I value relationships with people who are supportive and encouraging. I value taking time for self.

A goal I have, and want to maintain as a goal throughout my life, is to be constantly excited about learning new things. I want to be more open and vulnerable around other people in order to build more meaningful relationships with the people who want to support me. I want to be an exciting teacher, a class that students are excited to go to because they know they are going to have fun and also learn new things. In order to achieve this goal, I need to be more comfortable in front of a class, especially a class of high school students. I have much less experience in with older students than I do with younger students, I need to recognize the differences as well as similarities and find new ways to relate to the students.

A strength I have as a student is my desire to learn new things. I have an excitement about learning new things and then being able to share that new knowledge with other people. A weakness I have as a student is the inability to sit still in a classroom and the ability to retain information shared orally. I value movement, conversation, and activities during classes and that is something I want to incorporate into my classrooms to engage as many learning styles as possible.
